The Speyside Way is one of three official Long Distance Routes in Scotland. Eighty four miles of easy walking, along a mix of old railway, forest and riverside paths, links Spey Bay on the Moray coast with Tomintoul at the edge of the Grampian Mountains. The Lairig Ghru awaits more experienced walkers. The best known and most popular natural pass linking Deeside with Speyside wends between the highest Cairngorm Mountains along twenty miles of remote and challenging terrain.

This area has ideal walking terrain for all levels of fitness, including waymarked paths. These include, for example, the Speyside Way, an official long-distance footpath from the Moray coast by the mouth of the River Spey to the foothills of the Cairngorms; also the Gordon Way, running through the Aberdeenshire heartlands by way of the local landmark hill of Bennachie. For fit and experienced walkers there are plenty of big days out to some of the highest peaks of Scotland (Ben Macdui, for example, is the second highest of Britain's mountains).
